Have you been told that you would benefit from a dental crown? A crown is an excellent solution for a tooth that has been fractured, treated with root canal therapy, or damaged by deep decay. Because a crown replaces your entire tooth structure, you'll still enjoy all the function you had before, which means eating, brushing, flossing, and most importantly smiling remains the same. Here's what you should know about dental crowns in Royal Oak.
Your First Appointment
Dental crowns are typically completed over two appointments. At your first visit, Dr. Chalasani will prepare your tooth for its crown. She will create a temporary crown for you to wear while your final restoration is being completed at a local dental laboratory. Wearing your temporary crown gives you the opportunity to get used to the look and feel of your new tooth, so you can suggest any necessary adjustments to Dr. Chalasani when she places your permanent crown.
The Final Appointment
It typically takes 1 to 2 weeks for the laboratory to handcraft your final restoration according to Dr. Chalasani's specifications. When it's completed, you'll return to Family Dentistry of Royal Oak to have the crown permanently placed.
Once your crown is placed, you'll be able to eat and chew again with ease. Brushing and flossing around your crown will also be easy so you can properly care for your new restoration.
It's important not to delay getting your dental crown once it has been diagnosed since tooth decay can progress and make its way into the pulp of your tooth where it could cause an infection.
